Nabil Al Sayeg - Vocal
Our SingerNabil Georgios Al Sayeg, was born in Damascus of Syria in January 1963. He studied Civil Engineering in the Technological Institute of Syria and at the same time, he chanted in the Patriarchate of Antiohia. After his studies, he came to Greece, where he studied Byzantine music in the N.Skalkotas Conservatory, with the professor Lykourgos Angelopoulos. In 2000 he acquired the Greek citizenship. He is a member of Greek Byzantine Chorus with which he has participated in all its events in Greece and abroad. Also, he is chanter in Arabic-speaking Orthodox Church of Saint Olga, as well as in various other Greek churches. He plays the Oud and he sings, performing in various Arabic and Greek musical events. In the duration of his eve in Greece, he participated in seminars of Ministry of Culture of Syria and acquired the diploma of guide in the Greek language for Syria. From 2003, he is the singer of Arabic music ensemble “Al Mahabba ”, performing a wide repertoire of Arabic songs of important Arabian composers and counts many appearances in musical scenes of Athens, as well as in concerts halls.
 
Pericles Pantoleon - Oud

Pericles Oud webPericles Pantoleon was born in May 1968 in Athens. In 1982 he had his first lessons of electric guitar, while in 1986 he goes to Thessaloniki to study in the department of Electrical Engineers of Aristotle University. While in Thessaloniki, he continues his music lessons, watching courses of Flamenco guitar with the musicologist and Flamenco guitar-player Alekos Vengos and participating as a guitarist in various ensembles. In 1992, after successfully completing his studies in the Aristotle University, he travels in Sevilla of Spain in order to study near the Flamenco guitar-player , Carlos Heredia. In 1995 he begun having courses of Eastern music, rhythmical education and Eastern solfez in the "Centre of Musical Education", under the monitoring of Ross Daly, while in 1996 he meets the composer and soloist of the oud Haig Yazdjian, by whoom he is being taught the Oud and arabic maqam theory. The same season he receives Ney courses and lessons for the system of 53 commas, from Yiorgos Symeonidis. In November of 2002, he had an Oud master classes from the soloists Ara Dinkjian, Ziad Rajab, Hussein El Masry and Sakher Hattar, participating at the "International Meeting on the Oud", that was organised by the Cultural Organisation "En Chordais " in Thessaloniki. He is a founding member of arabic music ensemble “ Al Mahabba ”, which from 2003, has given various performances in musical scenes of Athens, as well as in Concert Halls.

 
Nektarios Stamatelos - Nay
Neyzen of Al Mahabba EnsembleNektarios Stamatelos was born in September 1974 in Mitilini of Lesvos. He began learning music in 1996 playing the Ney, with schoolteacher G.Symeonidis, in the Musical Laboratory “Labyrinth”of Ross Daly, while he participated in the courses of music theory and in the musical ensembles of the conservatoire. After that he had Ney courses with Harris Lambrakis and Eastern music theory lessons with Christos Tsiamoulis. The summertime of 2003 and 2004, he took part in the Ney seminars of Ross Daly’s Musical Laboratory “Labyrinth “ in Houdetsi, a small village of Crete, with Omer Erdogdular. He has participated in concerts with various musical ensembles, in theatrical performancies, documentaries, in radio and television broadcasts, as well as in the traditional orchestra of National Conservatoire of Athens. He is a founding member of the Arabic music ensemble “ Al Mahabba ”, which from 2003, performes in musical scenes of Athens, as well as in concerts. Nektarios Stamatelos, lives and works in Athens, as a Painter, and many works of him are in churches in various places of Greece and abroad.
 
Effie Zaitidou - Kanun
Al Mahabba Ensemble's kanun playerEffie Zaitidou was born in Athens in 1980. She grew up into a musical family and due to that, she was deeply immersed in the sound of Byzantine and Traditional Greek Music from very young. At the age of 5 she attended for first time classes of classical piano in a music school and in a couple of years she also started theoritical lessons (Theory of Classical Music, History of Music, Morphology and Chorus lessons). She also attends Byzantine Music Classes for almost three years. At the age of 20 she registers in the Technological Educational Istitute of Epirus in Arta, faculty of Music Technology, Department of Folk and Traditional Music. During her studies, she chooses to be specialized on the kanun. Until today she is invited to take part in several traditional music performances and festivals as a kanun player. Effie Zaitidou, except Al Mahabba, she is also a vital member of " Πλάγιοι Ήχοι", an ensemble with repertoire from Balkans and Eastern Mediterarean.
 
Ioannis Christou - Egyptian Tabla

Ioannis ChristouIoannis Christou was born in 1976 in Athens. Ηις first teacher of the Egyptian tabla is Mohammed Arafia (Chenkis) from Alexandria, Egypt and Talal Hassan from the city of Homs, Syria. He worked for many years in Arabic Night Shahrazand, Ali baba, Zehra, Maralinas, Babyl, Gade and he Collaborated among others with Halil Fayat, Nazwa Aboumalek, Doris Fahat, Gaby Sharestan, Nagy Freiha, Genwa Ganam, Hissam Amer, Ziad Ragab. Ioannis Christou is a graduate of Byzantine music since 1995 and also graduate of special harmony.
